Shiv Sena MLA assaults canteen staff over dal quality, says ‘No Regret’

Mumbai, Jul 9: In a shocking display of aggression, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad from Buldhana physically assaulted a canteen operator at the Akashvani MLA canteen in Churchgate, Mumbai, over the quality of dal served to him. The incident, captured on CCTV, has gone viral and drawn widespread criticism.

Gaikwad, who was reportedly upset after consuming the meal, stormed into the canteen still wrapped in a towel and demanded to know who had prepared the dal, claiming it was "rotten" and caused him uneasiness. In the video, he is seen slapping the canteen staff multiple times before punching the operator, causing him to collapse on the floor.

Speaking to media, Gaikwad defended his actions. "I lost it. This is the Shiv Sena style that Balasaheb Thackeray taught us. I am not a Gandhian. I’m a judo, karate, and wrestling champion. I don’t regret it," he said, asserting the food was hazardous and not the first complaint.

While some customers agreed the canteen food needs improvement, many condemned the MLA’s violent behaviour. Canteen staff also criticized the assault, saying issues should be addressed through proper channels, not through violence.

The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for action against the MLA’s conduct.
