Server glitch halts Salcete sub registrar services for third day

Margao, Jul 17: Services at the Salcete Sub Registrar Office have been severely affected for the third day in a row due to a persistent technical fault in the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS), leaving advocates and citizens exasperated.

The glitch, attributed to a server slowdown, falls under the purview of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), officials confirmed. The malfunction has led to repeated system crashes, affecting online deed registrations and scheduled time slots, creating chaos and forcing the rescheduling of appointments.

Frustrated citizens have questioned the government’s efficiency, pointing out that despite collecting hefty stamp duty and registration fees, essential services remain unreliable.

“The office earns lakhs in revenue daily. Once time slots are allotted, it is the office’s responsibility to stick to the schedule — technical issues cannot be an excuse,” said an irate visitor.

Sub Registrar Suraj Vernekar acknowledged the disruption and said, “The issue began last week. We’ve reported it to NIC and our other technical partner. NIC has confirmed they’re working on it, but since the system falls within their domain, the fix must come from them.”

As the issue drags on, citizens continue to demand prompt restoration of services and accountability from the authorities.
