Mangaluru, July 19: A Sullia driver took a newborn baby from Mangaluru to Bengaluru for treatment in an ambulance in just 4 hours and 50 minutes.

Hanif, an ambulance driver from Sullia's KVG Hospital, took a 15-day-old baby from a private hospital in Mangaluru to the Jayadeva Heart Treatment Center in Bengaluru for emergency treatment.

The newborn was suffering from a congenital heart disease. When the doctors advised to take the child as soon as possible, the parents requested an ambulance. Driver Hanif, who immediately went to Mangaluru, left with the child at 4 pm on July 17 and took him to Jayadeva Hospital at 8.50 pm, acting as an ambulance.

They were taken to Bengaluru via Mangaluru-Puttur-Sullia-Madikeri-Mysuru. Information was given in advance about the route the ambulance would need to take.

Accordingly, the public cooperated to ensure the smooth movement of the ambulance. Zero traffic arrangements were made by the KVG ambulance vehicle and the Shiva ambulance driver, Shiva and Sameer, and the police department through the highway patrolling staff.

May God bless the driver hanif. But This kind of adventures cause lots of stress & health issues in ambulanced rivers. Significant percentage of middle aged ambulance drivers have serous health issues as they worked with gross stress during their young age. Unscheduled & unscientific working hours & condition of Indian roads. Let there be a sincere audit of results of this kind of patient transfer :- We see lots of cases of patient being shifted to higher centers in record time, good, what was the results in those cases ? With 7 medical colleges in district, is it not possible to treat these cases in our district ? We are seeing crowd funding for treatment of many serious illness, how many of those patients survived after spending crores of rupees ? What percentage of ICU admissions & spending lakhs of rupees really recover ? Honestly, the need of then hour is medical scrutiny & social / economical audit about hyped super specialty treatment !! Is there any difference in the outcome of treatment by local doctor for a reasonable cost & treatment by super duper hospital with high end letterhead with expensive treatment ??!!! Time to think, audit & publish. With more than 9500 MBBS seats & so many doctors of alternative medicine, in addition of paramedical staff, think how to create job for these people !!!!
