New Delhi, Aug 9: A Mumbai-based woman, Ruchika Lohiya, has shared a disturbing account of two back-to-back incidents with cab drivers during her recent trip to Delhi, reigniting public concern over women’s safety in the capital.

In an Instagram post that has since gone viral with over two million views, Lohiya detailed how a Rapido driver refused to switch on the air conditioning during her ride from Delhi Airport, telling her it would be “turned on at his will” and advising her to book another cab if she wanted it. After approaching the Rapido help desk, she booked an Uber to continue her journey to Noida.

However, midway through the Uber ride, Lohiya said she briefly dozed off, only to wake up and find the driver allegedly filming her. Initially dismissing it as a misunderstanding, she soon realised he was indeed recording her. Panicked, she informed her sister, who advised her to exit immediately. Pretending to meet a friend, she left the cab with her luggage and ran to a crowded area before booking another ride.

Calling it one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, Lohiya wrote, “One of the mosttt unsafe places to visit, don’t know when will it get better but it’s surely getting worse!”

Both Rapido and Uber responded to her post, apologising and requesting her ride details to investigate the matter. The incidents have triggered renewed debate online about the safety of solo women travellers in Delhi.
