Mangalore, Feb 6: The lifeless body of Hemant Madhya (20), who was the prime suspect in the murder of Manikanth (22) residing near Muchoor School near Chelairu MRPL Colony in the wee hours on Sunday February 5, was found in a thicket at Jantabettu, Soorinje near Suratkal on Monday February 6 morning. In all likelihood, this is an act of vengeance in return for the mindless murder of Manikanth, a bus cleaner.
Hemant was a resident of Madhya village. It appeared that he was smothered before his throat was slit with the help of a sharp weapon.
Manikanth
The police believe that a close friend or relative of Manikanth would have committed this murder. Relating to minor enmity between Hemant and Manikanth, Manikanth was slain allegedly by Hemant along with eight of his associates, with the help of lethal weapons, when the former was walking towards his home after witnessing Bhoota Kola along with two of his friends. Out of the nine accused in this murder, eight have been arrested, and Hemant had evaded arrest. The police have said that the gangs of youth, who loiterered around in the region lazily, used to get support of political leaders, as a result of which, they easily got out every time they were involved with scuffles and quarrels and arrested. They also were addicted to intoxicants, it is learnt.
The spot where Hamant’s body has now been found, had witnessed a murder of a woman sometime back. The police, who believe that more than a couple of people were involved with this killing, have begun interrogating those who were close to Manikanth. They hope to make quick headway in the investigation and arrest the killers soon.
