Kannauj, Aug 29: In a bizarre incident that left locals stunned, a man in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh staged a dramatic protest by climbing an electricity tower, demanding to marry his wife’s sister.

The man, identified as Raj Saxena, was first married in 2021. However, tragedy struck when his wife passed away the following year due to illness. Saxena later married her younger sister, and the couple lived together for over two years.

Things took an unexpected turn when Saxena allegedly fell in love with his wife’s second sister. On Thursday morning, he shocked his family by insisting that he be allowed to marry her as well. When his wife opposed the demand, Saxena recreated a scene reminiscent of the Bollywood classic Sholay, climbing atop a high-voltage electricity tower and shouting his intention to wed his sister-in-law.

The unusual protest triggered chaos in the area, drawing large crowds. Police and family members rushed to the spot and engaged him in a seven-hour-long persuasion effort, finally convincing him to come down after assurances were made.

The incident has since gone viral on social media, with many calling it a “real-life drama straight out of a Bollywood script.”
