Beltangady: Madanthyar Celebrates Senior Citizen’s Day

Beltangady, Feb 6: Catholic Sabha Madanthyar (CS) unit and Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP) Madanthyar Unit together celebrated Senior Citizen’s day in Madanthyar on Saturday February 5 for people aged 70 years and above.

Mass specially dedicated to the seniors of the parish was celebrated at 10 am.


The programme started with a prayer dance by students Melissa, Shareen and Larissa at Guardian Angel Higher primary school auditorium. Parish Priest  Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Orator – preacher Fr Basil Vas, well-known local leader – vice president of Madanthyar Parish council Dr Raphael Sera, president of catholic sabha Madanthyar unit Jerome D’Souza along with the treasurer of SSVP  Maxim Albuquerque inaugurated the occasion symbolically by lighting the lamp.

Fr Basil vas educated the elders with the message “10 commandments for the old age for content leaving” which was delivered mesmerizingly and received by the audience with total attention.

The message was meant to uplift the spiritual health of the modern day elders which contained subjects to increase proximity to the children, to god, and to neighbors. The speaker also delivered the message “Leave every day as a special day”, dedicate your pain to god and learn to leave happily.

Dr Raphael Sera educated the elders on the deceases of the society – Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol and miracles of Water. Speaking on the topics Dr Sera spoke on the symptoms, cure and diet required to control these deceases which is very helpful for the elders to leave a healthy life.

All the attendants were honored with a memento. The speakers were felicitated with mark of gratitude. The occasion came to an end with the sumptuous lunch arranged by Aranha Caterers Madanthyar enjoyed  by seniors of the parish  who left with a beaming smile on their face after having spent their day under one roof meeting each other and participating in family get together.

Norbert Mendonca Madanthyar compered the event and thanked one and all.

Catholic Sabha and SSVP remains grateful to its donors Civil Architect Ajay D’Cunha Madanthyar,  Ambrose D’Souza Dota, Leo Rego – Madanthyar (Canada) and Joel Mendonca Madanthyar secretary –minority cell of BJP for Belthangady taluk.

    Congratulations to Catholic Sabha and SSVP,indeed, it is a good thought,great work and respect to our elders. Yes, it is absolute right to give them right knowledge about modern deceases and proper guidance at this age. This is a time to give them back. I wish all the elders good health and peace of mind.May God bless you all.
