Mumbai, Sep 21: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s official X account (formerly Twitter) was hacked on Sunday, triggering a brief online security scare. Hackers gained access to his profile and posted content featuring the national flags of Pakistan and Turkey, coinciding with India and Pakistan’s second match in the Asia Cup.

The unauthorised posts were quickly removed. Shinde’s office confirmed that the intrusion was detected promptly, and corrective measures were implemented to secure the account. Hackers also live-streamed images of the two countries before the technical team restored normalcy within 30 to 45 minutes. Officials assured that no sensitive information was compromised during the breach.

“This was acted upon immediately. The cyber crime police were alerted, and our team regained control of the X handle swiftly,” an official said.

The incident highlights rising concerns over cybersecurity for high-profile political figures in India, as leaders increasingly rely on social media platforms to communicate with citizens. Maharashtra’s cyber cell is investigating the breach to identify the individuals behind it.
