Mangaluru, Sep 22: On the occasion of World Rivers Day, and as part of the nationwide Swachhotsav campaign, the 18 KAR Battalion, Mangalore Group, in collaboration with St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), organized a cleanliness and awareness drive at Someshwara Beach on September 20.

The programme was led by ANO Capt Shakin Raj and conducted under the guidance of Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai, commanding officer of 18 KAR Battalion. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 90 NCC Army Wing cadets from the university.

The drive aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of cleanliness, environmental conservation, and tree plantation, with special emphasis on the role of rivers and coastal ecosystems.

Cadets engaged with local residents and tourists, educating them on how planting trees improves air quality, reduces pollution, and promotes environmental sustainability.

Saplings were distributed to local residents and tourists as a symbolic gesture, encouraging them to plant and nurture trees to contribute to a greener planet.

A beach cleaning activity was conducted, during which cadets collected and responsibly disposed of plastic waste, bottles, and other debris, helping restore the natural beauty and cleanliness of the beach.

This initiative highlighted the vital need to preserve rivers, beaches, and other natural water bodies, while reinforcing the message that individual efforts can have a meaningful environmental impact.

Through their dedication and teamwork, the NCC cadets demonstrated a strong commitment to community service, environmental protection, and the values of Swachh Bharat, serving as role models for the public.
