Hyderabad engineering student commits suicide following alleged ragging and harassment

Hyderabad, Sep 22: In a tragic incident, a second-year engineering student at Siddharth Engineering College in Hyderabad reportedly took his own life after being allegedly ragged and harassed by college seniors. The 22-year-old, identified as Jadav Sai Teja, was found hanging inside his hostel room.

According to preliminary reports, Sai Teja was coerced by seniors to consume alcohol and pay a bar bill of nearly Rs 10,000. In a distressing video recorded before his death, the student expressed fear, detailing physical assault and threats while pleading for help.

"I was going to college. Four or five people came and threatened me. They are coming and demanding money," Sai Teja said in the video. He added, "They are also hitting me, and I'm very scared. They are coming to me and asking for money… What should I do? I'm going to die. Please save me."

The video shows Sai Teja visibly distressed and terrified. Following the incident, his family and lawyer traveled over 300 km to reach his hostel.

Authorities have registered cases to investigate both ragging and the circumstances leading to the student’s suicide. The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for strict action against ragging and harassment in educational institutions.
