Beltangady, Aug 1: As St Raphael Parish, Badyar prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2027, it has launched a public appeal seeking generous financial support from parishioners, benefactors and well-wishers for the construction of a new place of worship to serve the growing needs of the faith community.
The centenary celebrations are being observed with gratitude for God's blessings over the past 100 years. The parish traces its origins to the missionary work of Jesuit priests Fr Gaviraghi SJ and Fr Korti SJ, who travelled through villages preaching the Gospel, serving the poor and nurturing small Christian communities. The parish was formally established in 1927 under the leadership of its first parish priest, Fr Louis Marcel Pinto, whose dedicated missionary service laid the foundation for a vibrant Christian community.
While the parish has grown spiritually and socially over the decades, increasing pastoral needs have made it necessary to construct a new building that can better serve future generations.
According to the parish, the proposed structure will provide a more spacious, prayerful and dignified place of worship. The existing building will continue to be used and will be converted into a centre for catechism classes for children, faith formation programmes for youth, seminars, spiritual enrichment programmes, parish meetings and community gatherings.
The parish, which presently comprises 146 families, said that although it is rich in faith and unity, the financial burden of the project is beyond the capacity of the parishioners alone. It has therefore appealed to parish members, benefactors and well-wishers to contribute generously towards the project, stating that every donation, big or small, will become a ‘living stone’ in the new building and a lasting testimony of their love for God and His Church.
The parish also requests the faithful to support the centenary dream through their prayers and financial contributions, invoking the intercession of St Raphael and God's abundant blessings upon all donors.
The parish has announced sponsorship categories ranging from Well Wisher (Rs 25,000) to Main Sponsor (Rs 25 lac). Other categories include Helping Hand (Rs 50,000), Benefactor (Rs 1 lac), Patron (Rs 2 lac), Donor (Rs 3 lac), Great Donor (Rs 5 lac), Sponsor (Rs 10 lac) and Major Sponsor (Rs 15 lac).
