Kolkata sees second shooting in two days: Young man found dead in Garden Reach

Kolkata, Sep 22: Just a day after a shootout at a gym in Charu Market, the city witnessed another violent incident on Monday morning. A young man was found dead with gunshot wounds near the DC Port office in the Garden Reach area.

Locals alerted the West Port police after hearing gunshots and discovering the body, which was wrapped in plastic. Police recovered a revolver and a bag beside the victim. The man was shot in the head, and the body has been sent for autopsy.

Officials suspect the assailants staged the scene to make it look like a suicide by placing the weapon in the victim’s hand before fleeing.

Investigations are ongoing, with police exploring all angles, including the possible illegal import of weapons into Kolkata during the Puja season.

This follows Sunday’s shootout at a Charu Market gym, where two masked men fired shots but caused no injuries. Authorities believe the gym owner was the intended target.

Police continue to probe both cases as tension rises in the city.
