Bangalore: Scientists Predict Early Summer Rains in Karnataka

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Feb 10: Sources in the meteorological department have predicted the onset of summer rains a few weeks earlier, probably by March 15. This prediction has been made on the basis of faster rise of mercury since last some days.

Normally, summer rains visit the state during first half of April. As there were no rains in November and December 2011, moisture content in ground has come down, which has given rise to faster rate of temperature increase. This increase, which is normally witnessed during March, has given rise to the possibility that summer rains will occur two to three weeks earlier, said  head of the meteorological department of the University of Agriculture, Prof Raje Gowda.

With the early advent of summer rains, average rainfall during summer will also be more. As against the average rainfall of 180 mm during summer, this time the average may cross 200 mm, the experts feel.
