Kalyan, Sep 24: In a disturbing incident, a 17-year-old college student from Kalyan in Maharashtra’s Thane district was allegedly gangraped by seven men in their twenties over a period of five months, police said on Tuesday.
The crime surfaced when the girl’s family found objectionable videos of her circulating online. According to officials, the ordeal began in April 2025 when the victim befriended one of the accused on Instagram. The friendship soon developed into a relationship, during which the man secretly recorded their intimate encounters without her consent.

He allegedly shared the videos with six friends, all belonging to affluent families from Murbad and Bhiwandi. The group then blackmailed the minor, threatening to leak the videos on social media and forcing her into repeated sexual acts. The harassment continued for five months until her family approached the police.
Following the complaint, all seven accused were arrested and produced before the Kalyan district and sessions court, which remanded them to eight days of police custody. A medical examination confirmed the victim is pregnant.
Police have booked the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections. The case is being investigated under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende.
Authorities have appealed to parents and youngsters to remain vigilant on social media, warning against the growing threat of online exploitation leading to serious crimes.
