Gurugram, Sep 27: Tragedy struck early Saturday morning when a speeding Mahindra Thar lost control and crashed into a divider on the National Highway near exit number 9, killing five people and leaving one critically injured. The accident occurred around 4:30 am.

The group of six — three men and three women — had traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work. Four passengers died on the spot, while the remaining two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to injuries. The sole survivor is undergoing treatment in critical condition. The SUV was left completely mangled after the collision.

Authorities noted that the incident adds to a series of accidents involving the Mahindra Thar, which has recently been in the spotlight for high-speed stunts and reckless driving. Last month, a biker was killed when a speeding Thar hit him in Delhi’s Moti Nagar area, crushing the bike between the SUV and a truck. Police had recovered two bottles of alcohol from the vehicle, and the driver, Amarinder Singh Sodhi, fled the scene.

In a separate case, a pedestrian died after being struck by a speeding Thar in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area, near Rashtrapati Bhavan. The accused later admitted to dozing off and losing control of the vehicle.

Earlier this month, a woman accidentally drove a Thar through a glass wall of a showroom in Delhi’s Preet Vihar while taking delivery of her newly purchased SUV. Fortunately, no one was injured.

This latest accident in Gurugram underscores growing concerns over the SUV’s frequent involvement in high-speed incidents and calls for stricter enforcement of traffic safety measures.
