Karkala, Oct 3: The birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated with great enthusiasm at Christ King Educational Institutions, Karkala.
Dr Sriram Mogeraya, Ayurvedic doctor and social worker, was the chief guest of the programme. In his address, he highlighted that Mahatma Gandhi brought independence to India through truth, non-violence, and peaceful struggle, while leading a simple life. He urged students to adopt these noble values and perform their duties as responsible citizens and “cleanliness warriors.”

Guest speaker Dr Uday Kumar Irvattur remarked that Gandhiji had instilled the values of truth, justice, loyalty, and discipline even as a student. He encouraged today’s youth to cultivate similar traits to achieve success in life.
Presiding over the function, Dr Peter Fernandes, member of the Christ King Education Trust, said, “The purpose of celebrating Gandhi Jayanti is to imbibe the ideals of great leaders. Gandhiji’s principles are followed worldwide. Just as a clean environment is necessary, a clean mind is equally important to build a clean nation.”
The guests offered floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. An interfaith prayer service was also held on the occasion. Rudolf Kishore Lobo, headmaster of the Primary Department, led the oath-taking ceremony.
