New Delhi, Oct 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly making statements on foreign soil that undermine India’s national interests, terming them “anti-India.”
BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Congress party, knowingly or unknowingly, acts like a “toy in the hands of anti-national elements.” He pointed to the long dominance of the Nehru-Gandhi family since Motilal Nehru’s leadership in 1919, claiming that the party continues to look towards foreign powers for direction.

Listing Gandhi’s remarks between 2017 and 2023 at Columbia University, Chatham House in London, Stanford, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, Bahrain and the US, Trivedi alleged that the Congress leader’s words displayed a consistent pattern. He called Gandhi’s statement at Chatham House in March 2023, where he questioned why Europe and America were silent on India, an insult to the nation.
Trivedi contrasted this with Mahatma Gandhi’s 1931 address at the same venue, where the British were held accountable for India’s plight. “Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are nowhere near that spirit,” he said.
Highlighting India’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trivedi cited Cambridge and Stanford reports on digital transformation, AI penetration and vibrancy, along with the World Bank’s July 2025 report showing a fall in extreme poverty to 2.3%. He added that while Modi rose from humble beginnings to global leadership, Congress remained tied to legacy and foreign dependence.
Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a university in Colombia on Thursday, had criticised the government, claiming that an “attack on democracy” posed a serious threat to India’s future.
