Karkala: MPM Govt College hosts first aid training for Youth Red Cross volunteers

Karkala, Oct 6: The Youth Red Cross unit of MPM Government First Grade College organised a first aid training programme in collaboration with IQAC on October 4 at College Auditorium. The programme aimed to create awareness on how to respond effectively during medical emergencies.

The session began with YRC prayer sung by Ashwini and team of III BCom. The resource person Sacheth Suvarna, the first aid master trainer stated that the volunteers should be equipped with basic first aid knowledge to respond effectively during emergencies such as accidents, natural disasters, or sudden illnesses.

He explained the relevance and importance of first aid, the duties and responsibilities of Youth Red Cross volunteers and demonstrated practical techniques for handling common emergencies such as bleeding, burns, fractures, fainting, choking, and cardiac arrest. Participants were given hands-on training in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and wound management.

The presidential remarks were delivered by the principal, Prof Suresh Rai, in his presidential address, he highlighted the significance of first aid training and explained how the Battle of Solferino led to the formation of the Red Cross and the Youth Red Cross.

Youth Red Cross programme officer Mohini, IQAC coordinator Vinay M S and faculty members were present during the programme, Dhanush of III BCom welcomed the gathering. Rachana of III BCom introduced the guest and Kavya Shetty of II BBA proposed the vote of thanks. Divya of III BCom compered the programme.
