Journalist brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Prayagraj

Prayagraj, Oct 24: In a shocking incident, a 54-year-old journalist, identified as Laxmi Narayan Singh alias Pappu, was brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants near a hotel in Prayagraj on Thursday evening, police said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya, Singh, a senior journalist, was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon and sustained grievous injuries. He was immediately rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Additional DCP Pushkar Verma informed that the attack appeared to be pre-planned, though the motive behind the killing is yet to be established. The victim, police said, was the nephew of former High Court Bar Association president Ashok Singh.

Teams from multiple police units have been deployed, and CCTV footage from the vicinity is being closely examined to trace the attackers. “Efforts are on to identify and arrest those involved,” Verma said.

The gruesome murder has sparked widespread outrage among the journalist fraternity and the public, who have demanded a swift and impartial investigation into the incident.
