Mumbai, Nov 4: Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport arrested a passenger arriving from Dubai after discovering foreign currency worth Rs 87 lac concealed in his checked-in trolley bag.

According to officials, the traveller landed in Mumbai on Air India flight AI2201 on Tuesday and was intercepted during a routine baggage inspection. A detailed search led to the recovery of the undeclared foreign currency, which had been cleverly hidden inside the luggage.

The passenger was taken into custody under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended use of the seized money.

Authorities are probing whether the case is linked to a larger smuggling network or if the passenger was acting as a courier for foreign exchange operators.
