Mangalore: Porn Video Fallout - City Mayor Bans Mobile Phones in MCC

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Feb 18: Through a ruling delivered at the general session of the city council held here on Friday February 17, mayor Praveen Anchan has banned use of mobile phones when the house in session.

The decision has come in the wake of three ministers from the state losing their positions after they were caught watching a porn video in the state assembly.

At the outset, Ashraf, an opposition corporator, raised the topic at the session. He said that the media has been closely monitoring every movement and action of the elected representatives, and mentioned about the use of mobile phone by certain corporators when the session is in progress.

When he demanded a blanket ban on the use of mobile phone within the council hall when the session was in progress, corporator Mariamma Thomas stoutly opposed the idea, saying that the session takes three hours to conclude, and the corporators do not get to know about the problems within their wards during this period, if they have no access to mobile phones. The mayor, who said mobile phones should not be used in the session, adjourned the session for a short period.

When the house met again thereafter, corporator K Madhukiran wanted to know whether mobile phones should never be brought into the house, or whether the ban is only against its use when session is in progress. He expressed difficulty in keeping the mobile phones, which are costly and valuable, outside for fear of being stolen. He demanded a clear-cut direction from the mayor.

Replying to the question, the mayor clarified said that he is not against bringing mobile phone sets inside the session, but asked the corporators either to switch them off or keep them in silent mode. He said those who are in urgent need to talk over mobile phone should go out of the session, and return after their conversation is over.

It is a good idea for the City Mayor to ban Mobile Phones in MCC but will it work as the ministers are more powerful than the Mayor. They will not care as they do to the public and the citizens. This is all in the media. The best thing is before entering the mobile phones should be handed over to the security as it is done in most cases in USA. Corporator Mariamma Thomas is opposing as I feel she and others must be using the mobile phone while the session is in progress. The problems can be solved within the wards even after the session as it is not a fire or earthquake or some riots which she had to take care. So please ban mobile phones during sessions.
