Palghar, Nov 23: The body of former Mumbai Under-16 footballer Sagar Sorti was found hanging from a tree in Mendhavan Khind forest, Palghar, last week, with police suspecting suicide.

Sorti had left home on November 15, telling his family he was going to play football in Pune. When he could not be contacted the following day, his family alerted authorities. His body was discovered on November 18, with his mobile phone helping police confirm his identity.

According to his family, Sorti had been under mental stress for the past two years and had recently refused to get new clothes stitched for his younger brother’s upcoming wedding.

An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Kasa police station. The body has been sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for post-mortem, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report, said Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh. “We will take further action based on the report,” he added.
