New Delhi, Nov 23: India has voiced strong satisfaction with the major decisions adopted at CoP30, extending full support to the inclusive leadership of the CoP30 Presidency in Belem, Brazil. In an official statement issued on Sunday, the country highlighted several notable achievements at the UNFCCC summit.
India welcomed the progress made under the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), emphasising that the decision acknowledges the overwhelming adaptation needs of developing nations. The equity component of the GGA outcome, officials said, marks an important recognition of the disproportionate climate vulnerabilities faced by countries in the Global South.

A central theme of India’s remarks was the long-standing responsibility of developed nations to deliver on Climate Finance commitments. The statement expressed appreciation for the Presidency’s efforts in helping India initiate long-overdue discussions on Article 9.1 of the Paris Agreement, noting: “India sincerely hopes that, in the spirit of international cooperation, the promises made 33 years ago at Rio will finally be honoured following the steps taken in Belem.”
India also thanked the Presidency for facilitating dialogue on unilateral trade-restrictive climate measures — policies that, it argued, unfairly penalise developing countries and violate the principles of equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC) embedded in the Convention and the Paris Agreement. These issues, India said, “can no longer be brushed under the carpet,” and the talks in Belem marked an important beginning in reversing this trend.
Reiterating its long-held position on equitable climate action, the statement stressed that the burden of mitigation must not fall on countries that have contributed least to the climate crisis. It underlined the urgent need for increased global support to vulnerable populations — the majority of whom live in the Global South — so they may better withstand intensifying climate impacts.
The ministry further noted that India remains firmly committed to science-based, fair and inclusive climate action, and to a global order that respects national sovereignty and adheres to rules and equity. India pledged to continue collaborating with all Parties to ensure climate ambition remains just, balanced and globally representative.
