Thane, Nov 27: Police have arrested a 50-year-old man for the murder of his live-in partner after her body was found stuffed in a suitcase on the banks of a creek in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
The body of 22-year-old Priyanka Vishwakarma was discovered under a bridge near Desai village on Monday. Police noted a tattoo with the initials “P V S” on her wrist, which helped in identifying her. Investigators suspected that the body had been packed inside a suitcase before being dumped at the creek.

Acting on clues from social media and CCTV footage, police traced and arrested the accused, Vinod Srinivas Vishwakarma, from Desai village. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder.
According to officials, the couple had been living together for the last five years. On the night of November 21, they allegedly had a heated argument during which Vinod strangled Priyanka to death. He kept the body in the house for a day, but as decomposition began and the foul smell spread, he stuffed the body into a suitcase and carried it to the creek on foot, disposing of it by throwing it off the bridge on the night of November 22.
The accused was arrested on Tuesday and has been booked for murder and destroying evidence. Police are continuing their investigation.
