Goa govt cracks down on ‘vulgar’ event promotions; CM Pramod Sawant issues stern warning

Panaji, Nov 28: In a firm message to event organisers, Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday cautioned that strict action would be taken against anyone promoting events that showcase vulgarity or hurt public sentiment in the state.

The statement comes after the government halted the controversial programme titled “Tales of Kamasutra & Christmas Celebration”, organised by the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh Foundation. The event came under the scanner after it was flagged by the police.

“We will not allow such events to be hosted in Goa. I have instructed the Goa Police to take action against any individual from outside the state who promotes such programmes,” Sawant asserted, emphasising that responsibility lies with organisers to seek permission before advertising any event.

He further clarified that until the state government grants approval, no organiser is allowed to publicise or conduct events. “We will not allow anybody to organise anything in Goa without proper permission,” he added.

The event, originally scheduled from December 25 to 28, was cancelled following strong objections from the Catholic Church and various women’s groups. Subsequently, Goa Police registered an FIR against the founders and the Osho Ludhiana Meditation Society for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

The government’s stance has sent a clear message that Goa will not entertain events that could disturb cultural harmony or promote indecent content.
