Mangalore: Former Dy RBI Governor Graces Karnataka Bank Founders' Day Event

Mangalore, Feb 19: Karnataka Bank Limited celebrated its Founders' Day at the Bank’s head office near Mahaveer circle here on Saturday February 18.
 
Usha Thorat, former deputy governor, Reserve Bank of India, and director, centre for advanced financial research and learning, was the chief guest.

Delivering a lecture on 'Challenges and Opportunities for Old Private Sector Banks', she said that the positive relationship between finance and growth accepted by all for long is now being questioned and a view is emerging that beyond a level excessive finance is detrimental to growth and stability.

"However, in India, the role of finance and banking is still very important if we have to realize the potential for growth. Agriculture has huge potential for the banking sector in the country," she added.

Thorat congratulated the bank which has completed 88 years of existence and said it will complete 200 years successfully. She launched two new products of the bank - KBL Gift Card and KBL Travel Card - on the occasion.
 
Ananthakrishna, chairman of the bank, in his presidential address, said that the bank is committed to helping society in the field of education and rural development. He asserted that the four pillars of the bank are its 50 lac customers, 5,000 employees, share holders of the bank, and the board of directors.
 
P Jayaram Bhat, managing director of the bank, was present on the dais. The programme was followed with a musical concert by Sangeet Samrat Chitravina Shri N Ravikiran.
