Mangalore, Feb 19: To mark the centenary celebrations of Kudroli Shri Gokarnatheshwara Temple and on the occasion of Shivaratri, 'Urulu Seve', a ritual that involves rolling on the ground, was held at the Temple premises here on Sunday February 19.
A large number devotees including Janardhan Poojary took part in the ritual and prayed for the welfare of society. 'Rathotsava' was also held on the occasion.
It may be recalled that Poojary had earlier promised devotees that they would be provided with an opportunity to perform 'urulu seve' during the festival of Shivaratri.
He said that he had invited devotees to practice 'urulu seve', which is different from 'made snana'. "In 'made snana', lower caste Hindus roll on plantain leaves with leftovers of meal served to Brahmins, but 'urulu seve' is performed keeping in mind the cleanliness aspect as well," he explained.
