Chandigarh, Dec 8: In a series of high-alert operations along the Punjab frontier, Border Security Force (BSF) troops successfully intercepted cross-border narco-smuggling, seizing over 6.6 kg of heroin, 429 grams of opium, and a DJI Air-3 drone carrying pistol components, officials said on Monday.
The BSF acted on intelligence of suspected aerial movements near Daoke village in Amritsar, recovering two large packets of heroin weighing 6.641 kg, fitted with illuminating sticks and metal loops. A separate operation near Mahawa village led to the seizure of an opium packet. In Tarn Taran, a joint operation with Punjab Police recovered a drone carrying pistol parts.

“These operations highlight BSF’s vigilance, precision, and capability in countering both aerial and ground-based smuggling attempts along the international border,” the force stated.
Meanwhile, the Amritsar commissionerate police dismantled a Pakistan-linked cross-border arms smuggling module. Six operatives, including one juvenile, were arrested, and six firearms—five .30 bore pistols and one PX5 9mm—were recovered. Investigations revealed that the accused were coordinating with a Pakistan-based handler via social media, receiving weapon drop coordinates. The gang supplied firearms to criminals in the Majha and Doaba regions.
An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered in Amritsar, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the network, financial channels, and recipients. Punjab Police affirmed its commitment to dismantling cross-border arms smuggling networks and safeguarding public security.
