Mangaluru: City police nab absconding interstate criminal evading court warrants in 25 cases

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Mangaluru City police have arrested an absconding warrant accused, Abdul Raoof alias Meese Raoof, who had been evading court proceedings despite multiple non-bailable warrants and proclamation orders issued against him.

The accused, Abdul Raoof alias Meese Raoof, aged 48, son of late Hasan Mohammed, is a resident of Uppala of  Manjeshwar taluk in Kasaragod district, Kerala.

Police said he is involved in as many as 25 criminal cases, including around 19 cases registered across various police stations in Kasaragod district, one case at Kavoor police station and five cases at Konaje police station under the limits of Mangaluru city.

In the case registered at Kavoor police station bearing Crime No. 54/2017 under Sections 398 and 120B of the IPC and Sections 4, 25 and 1AB of the Arms Act, the court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused.

In addition, in five cases registered at Konaje police station in 2020 under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC, bearing Crime Nos. 50/2020, 51/2020, 52/2020, 53/2020 and 54/2020, the court had declared him a proclaimed offender. A non-bailable warrant had also been issued by the court in connection with one case registered at Manjeshwar police station.

Police further stated that Abdul Raoof alias Meese Raoof is an interstate notorious criminal and a close associate of Isubu Ziad alias Zia of Uppala Paivalike in Kerala. Apart from the cases in Mangaluru, several serious cases have been registered against him at Manjeshwar police station over the years. These include Crime No. 371/05 under Section 392 read with Section 34 of the IPC, Crime No. 28/06 under Sections 143, 147, 148, 323 and 308 read with Section 149 of the IPC, Crime No. 189/08 under Section 395 of the IPC, Crime No. 348/09 under Sections 324 and 308 of the IPC and Section 3(2)(e) of the PDPP Act, and Crime No. 409/11 under Sections 324, 452 and 506(1) read with Section 34 of the IPC. He was also booked in Crime No. 141/19 under Sections 4 and 25(1B)(b) of the Arms Act.

Further cases include Crime No. 414/2020 registered at Kumbla police station under Section 379 of the IPC, Crime No. 141/2020 at Manjeshwar police station under Sections 341 and 323 of the IPC, Crime No. 437/2020 under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC, Crime No. 165/2021 at Kumbla police station under Sections 457, 380 and 461 of the IPC, and Crime No. 238/2021 at Vidyanagar police station under Sections 457, 380 and 461 of the IPC. He was also involved in Crime No. 93/2021 at Manjeshwar police station under Sections 452, 324 and 308 read with Section 34 of the IPC and another case bearing Crime No. 238/21 at Vidyanagar police station under Sections 380, 457 and 461 of the IPC.

Police added that the accused was further booked in Crime No. 348/20 at Manjeshwar police station under Sections 4 and 25(1-B)(b) of the Arms Act, Sections 269 and 188 of the IPC and Sections 4(2)(e) and 5 of the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance Act. He also figured in Crime No. 229/14 under Section 107 of the CrPC, Crime No. 410/20 at Kumbla police station under Sections 380, 457 and 461 of the IPC, Crime No. 806/20 at Manjeshwar police station under Sections 4(1)(d) and 102 of the CrPC, later altered to Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC, Crime No. 141/21 under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC, and the most recent Crime No. 873/2024 registered at Manjeshwar police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Acting on specific inputs, a team led by assistant commissioner of police (North sub-division) Srikant K, along with ASI Chandrashekar and staff members head constable Reji V M, Damodara K and Halesh Naik, apprehended the accused on December 16. He was later produced and handed over to Kavoor police station for further legal proceedings.
