Mira Road, Dec 31: In a shocking incident during the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation election process, 66-year-old candidate Javed Pathan collapsed and died just moments after filing his nomination papers on the final day of nominations on Tuesday. The sudden death has once again brought the intense mental and physical stress faced by election candidates into sharp focus.
Javed Pathan, a resident of the Naya Nagar area in Mira Road, had filed his nomination from Ward No. 22 as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction). He arrived at the office of the Returning Officer at Hetri Chowk to complete the formalities, as Tuesday was the last date for filing nominations.
According to officials and eyewitnesses, Pathan calmly completed the nomination process and stepped out of the office. However, within moments of exiting the premises, his health deteriorated suddenly. People present at the spot immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
