Ras Al Khaimah, Jan 1: Ras Al Khaimah ushered in 2026 with a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration, capturing global attention by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest aerial phoenix created by drones. The night-long festivities transformed the emirate’s skyline into a canvas of light, colour, and motion, drawing thousands of residents and tourists to the waterfront.

The highlight of the celebrations was a 15-minute drone show featuring 2,300 drones performing intricate, animated formations over the coastline. At the heart of the display was a massive phoenix, symbolising renewal and new beginnings. The visual impact was heightened by 1,000 pyro drones that lit up the phoenix’s wings with flame-like effects, giving the illusion of a fiery bird soaring across the sky.

Another memorable sequence showcased a human figure emerging from the sea with arms outstretched, a formation titled “The Welcome.” The imagery reflected Ras Al Khaimah’s spirit of openness and hospitality, with the seamless coordination of drones leaving the audience in awe of the technological precision and artistic storytelling.

As the clock edged closer to midnight, the drone performance transitioned into a large-scale fireworks display. The countdown unfolded along a six-kilometre stretch of coastline, from Marjan Island to Al Hamra, where hundreds of fireworks erupted in synchronized patterns. The display illuminated the shoreline with vibrant bursts of light and sound, creating a dramatic start to the New Year.

Earlier in the evening, an additional fireworks show at Corniche Al Qawasim added to the festive atmosphere, especially for families who gathered to celebrate together.

Beachfront resorts and the New Year’s eve festival venues were filled with crowds enjoying live music, stage performances, and entertainment. The celebrations were designed to offer a shared experience, bringing together the community and visitors in a collective moment of joy and reflection.

Commenting on the event, Phillipa Harrison, ceo of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, said the New Year’s Eve celebrations were about unity and shared experiences. She noted that the event aimed not only to entertain but also to reflect on the emirate’s growth, while welcoming the year ahead with optimism, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose.
