Four Kerala children from same family killed, parents and sister critically injured

Abu Dhabi, Jan 7: A horrific road accident in Abu Dhabi claimed the lives of four children from a Kerala family, while their parents and only sister sustained serious injuries. The tragedy occurred as the family was returning to Dubai after spending some time at the Liwa Festival.

The victims, all under 14 years of age, belonged to a single family originally from Malappuram, Kerala. The deceased children have been identified as 14-year-old Ashazh, 12-year-old Amar, 7-year-old Azaam, and 5-year-old Ayyash. While Ashazh, Amar, and Ayyash died on the spot, 7-year-old Azaam succumbed to injuries on Monday after being hospitalized.

The parents, Abdul Latif and Ruksana, along with their 10-year-old daughter Izza, were critically injured and are receiving treatment in the hospital. The family’s domestic worker, 49-year-old Bushra Fayaz Yahu, also lost her life in the accident. Bushra’s body was sent to Kerala on Monday evening and funeral rites were completed on Tuesday.

The bereaved family members were shown the bodies of the deceased children at the hospital before the funeral. Later, on Tuesday afternoon, the children were laid to rest at Al Qusais cemetery in Dubai’s Muhaisnah area, in the presence of relatives and friends.

Abdul Latif is a businessman based in Ras Al Khaimah, while Ruksana works as a real estate consultant. The family had traveled to Abu Dhabi during the winter holidays to attend the Liwa Festival. The accident occurred as they were returning to Dubai ahead of the school reopening.

This tragic incident has left the family and community in deep shock, highlighting the importance of road safety even during holiday travels.
