Colvale: Jail warden suspended after video with history-sheeter goes viral

Colvale, Jan 10: The Goa Prison Authority has suspended a jail warden attached to the Central Jail, Colvale, after a video showing him celebrating with a history-sheeter surfaced on social media, triggering widespread outrage.

Jail Warden Laxman Padloskar was placed under suspension on Saturday following the circulation of the video, which shows him celebrating the bail granted to history-sheeter Amogh Naik. Naik was recently released on bail by a local court in connection with a gang war case reported in South Goa last year.

Superintendent of Police (Prisons) Sucheta Desai confirmed Padloskar’s suspension, stating that the action has been taken pending a detailed departmental inquiry into the incident.

The development comes close on the heels of strong observations made by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court, which had, two days ago, expressed serious concern over the alleged availability of mobile phones and other contraband inside the Colvale Central Jail in North Goa.

The viral video has raised questions about prison discipline and the conduct of jail staff, with authorities now probing the circumstances under which the celebration took place and whether jail rules were violated.
