Patnem locals seek official road inspection over mega project clearance

Canacona, Jan 11: Residents of Patnem-Colomb in Canacona have raised objections to the approval of a mega project in their locality, alleging irregularities in the certification of the access road leading to the site.

On Friday, a delegation of local residents, accompanied by ward councillor Shubham Komarpant, met Deputy Collector Prataprao Naik Gaonkar and submitted a memorandum demanding a joint inspection of the road. The residents called for officials from the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department and the Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct the inspection in the presence of locals.

According to the residents, the project was cleared based on a disputed assessment of the existing road’s width. They claimed their repeated concerns had been ignored by the authorities.

Speaking to the deputy collector, resident Anil Faldesai said that official agencies had turned a blind eye to their grievances. Another local, Vaibhav Faldesai, cautioned that continued neglect of the issue could lead to public unrest, adding that residents should not be blamed if the situation escalates.

Responding to the concerns, Deputy Collector Gaonkar assured the delegation that the matter would be examined at the earliest.
