Mumbai, Aug 8: Prime Video India has unveiled the trailer for the second season of the celebrity reality competition series ‘The Traitors’, hosted by Karan Johar, with the new season set to premiere exclusively on the platform on August 13. New episodes will be released every Thursday.
Filmed against the backdrop of Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer, the second season features 21 celebrity contestants from the worlds of entertainment, music and digital media.
The contestants include Aaditya Kulshreshth, popularly known as Kullu, Abhishek Malhan aka Fukraa Insaan, Ansh Chopra, Dalip Tahil, Harman Singha, Ikka Singh, Karan Singh Magic, Krystle D’souza, Mallika Sherawat, Munawar Faruqui, Parul Gulati, Prish, Ranveer Brar, Rhea Chakraborty, Rida Tharana, Sahil Salathia, Shahneel Gill, Shalini Passi, Shweta Tiwari, Soundous Moufakir and Tanya Puri.
Johar will be joined this season by a new character named Boo, described as the harbinger of “Buri Khabar” or bad news.
The show follows the established format in which a group of Innocents must identify the hidden Traitors before they are eliminated, while the Traitors attempt to remain undercover and eliminate their opponents.
Johar said the first season had broken through the clutter of formulaic reality television and that the audience response showed viewers were ready for something different.
“With Season 2, we knew we had to return with a game that was bigger, sharper, and even more unpredictable,” Johar said.
He added that the contestants entered the palace fully aware of the show's twists and traps, armed with stronger strategies, instincts and determination.
According to Johar, the new season will see friendships unravel, trust turn into paranoia and alliances collapse, with contestants making choices that surprised even him.
“As the host, I’ve had a front-row seat to some truly unbelievable moments, and I can honestly say I wasn’t prepared for what unfolded this season,” he said.
The trailer launch followed a promotional event at which Prime Video unveiled the complete contestant lineup through a “Dining Theater of Treachery” experience.
The series is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital content arm of Dharma Productions, in association with All3Media International, the global distributor that handles the format’s rights across more than 30 territories.
The format was developed by IDTV and has won both BAFTA and Emmy Awards.
