Mangalore, Feb 24: Hopefully, frequent traffic blocks which occur at Kulur, which is located at a strategic location, will prove to be a thing of the past.
On Thursday February 23, the flyover at Kulur, which is part and parcel of the national highway widening work between Suratkal and Bantwal, and the construction of which began over six years ago, finally became fully operational.
Officials of National Highways Authority of India and contracting firm, Ircon, arrived at the spot on Thursday evening, performed puja, distributed sweets, and removed the barricades placed at the entry point to the flyover near the church hill in Kulur, to pave way for smooth traffic.
The people and vehicle users alike welcomed the move. Kulur area enjoyed a smooth traffic on Thursday evening, after vehicles moving into the city started using the flyover.
It may be recalled that flyovers at Kottara and Kuntikan have already been opened for traffic under the said project. The officials said that the flyover at Suratkal, which is in its final stages since many years, is expected to be opened for traffic by the end of this month.
The problem about the bus stop at Kulur for express buses coming from the direction of Udupi is yet to be resolved. It is said that there is a proposal to shift the express bus stop at Suratkal to near Govinda Dasa College from the town once the flyover there is opened.
