Puttur: Woman Murdered, Body Found in Tank

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Feb 26: The body of Sundari (45), who worked in an areca nut plantation, was found in a tank located in the areca nut plantation where she used to work. The incident occurred at Eshwaramangala in Nettanige Mudnoor village in the taluk on Friday February 24.

Sundari, wife of Rama Naik from Pulittadi, Esharamangala, used to work in an areca nut plantation owned by a local named Venkataramana Bhat at Pulittadi near Pundikai. On Friday morning, after Sundari reported for work, Bhat went away as he had work elsewhere. His wife, a teacher by profession, was at her school.

After returning in the evening, Bhat saw that the lock of his house had been broken. After a thorough search, he found that Sundari's body was lying in the tank. The fact that blood stains were found near the tank has given the clue that she was killed before her body was tossed into the tank.

It is suspected that the robbers had broken the lock of Bhat's home with the intention of stealing valuables. It appears that Sundari, who was husking areca nuts near the cattleshed, offered resistance to their attempts. At the spot where Sundari was working, areca nuts and husks were found scattered, and blood stains were found. The robbers seem to have killed her by hitting her head with a cudgel before throwing her body into the tank, and then made good their escape.

Rural police station inspector, Jagadish, and sub inspector, Jagadish, have taken up investigation, after registering a case.
