Mangalore, Feb 26: Puttur taluk has been chosen for the pilot project under the Karnataka (Right of Citizens to Time Bound Delivery of Services) Act, 2011. Under this Act, the government departments are required to clear applications without delay, so as to increase efficiency and bring about transperancy.
The other three taluks chosen for the sample implementation of this revolutionary act are in Bidar, Chitradurga, and Dharwad districts.
The Act stipulates a time frame for disposal of various applications from citizens for services of the government departments. As computerization is an integral part of this drive, the people of Puttur taluk henceforth will get up to date information about the acceptance of their application, its movement, and final decision, without delay.
This step is hoped to stop red tape in government offices, as the officials who keep the files pending will be answerable for the delay involved and penalty is stipulated for undue delay without backed by genuine reasons. Maintenance of transparency is one of the foremost aims of the act.
Initially, Kundapur taluk in Udupi district had been chosen for the pilot project. However, because of the upcoming bypoll, the decision interferes with the election code of conduct. Hence, Kundapur was left out, and Puttur was opted instead for its implementation.
The act will come into force in all government offices in Puttur taluk with effect from March 1 this year. To prepare the government officials to be in readiness for the pilot project, a day’s training programme was scheduled for them at Town Hall here on Saturday February 25.
