Moodbidri: Alva's College Hosts Symposium on Biotechnology

Moodbidri, Feb 26: A two-day symposium on ‘Perspective of Biotechnology in Health and Industry’ was inaugurated at Alva’s College on Friday February 24. It was organized under the aegis of biotechnology department of Alva’s College.

Dr M N Dixit, senior scientific manager, Bangalore-based Clinical International Company, inaugurated the symposium on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dixit said that bio pharmacies are coming up across the country with huge potential for employment opportunities. “The two-day symposium will be helpful for the student to explore their future perspectives,” he said.

Dr R Raghunatan, principal, Perundarai Maharaj Co-education College, Tamil Nadu, urged the students to take note of the research undertaken by different companies related to biotechnology.

Alva’s College principal Prof Kurian, in his presidential address, said that science is essential for people of all strata in the society. “It has become a part of life. It’s wise to use science judiciously,” he added.

A power point presentation that was brought out by the biotechnology department was unveiled on the same occasion.

Biotechnology department head Dr Rama Bhat delivered the keynote address. Dr Jayadev proposed the vote of thanks. Pratiksha compered the programme.

Around 150 students from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh participated in the symposium.
