Udupi, Feb 27: JDS has officially announced that it has decided to field S L Boje Gowda, JDS Chikmagalur district working president, as its candidate for the bypoll being held on March 18 for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat.
This was stated by district JDS president, Deviprasad Shetty, and Chikmagalur district JDS president, H S Devaraj.
As JDS state president, H D Kumaraswamy, has made it clear that the party will fight this bypoll with all seriousness, the presence of JDS candidate can influence the final outcome of the bypoll, analysts feel. This is so because the fact that the battle is evenly poised between BJP and Congress, taking into account the thin margin of victory by BJP in previous election, and widespread popularity and clean image of Congress candidate.
