Nation-wide Strike on Feb 28 May Paralyze Trade, Banking

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Feb 27: 11 trade unions together have given call for a general strike all over the nation on Tuesday February 28. Gurudas Dasgupta, general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress, said that so many unions have come together for the first time in history of the nation at the national level for the same cause. Employees in private sector have also extended support to the strike.

The unions have been demanding abolition of appointments on contract basis, bringing ammendment to the Minimum Wages Act, providing for payment of pension to all categories of employees, and bringing down inflation, among others. For the first time, unions owing allegiance to Congress, BJP, and communist ideologies have joined hands together for the strike.

It is expected that work in banks, government offices, and private enterprises will be affected by the strike. Railways will be the only exception, which will function normally.

Although union labour minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, has requested the unions to call of their strike plan and expressed readiness of the union government to hold talks with them, the labour organizations have dismissed his statement as just lip service that has come at the last minute.  Gurudas Dasgupta criticized the union government for not taking notice of the conference of all India level workers held recently, and not giving any seriousness to the call given for nation-wide strike so far.

Bharatiya Kamgar Sena functioning under Shiv Sena, STU under Indian Union Muslim League, Congress-supported All India Trade Union Congress, and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh owing allegiance to BJP are among the 11 organizations which have decided to go on strike together.

Employees unions of seven banks, under which eight lac employees are covered, have also decided to fall in line, demanding the managements to take sterner steps to recover non-performing assets and stoppage of outsourcing important banking activities. Out of nine unions in banks, seven have given strike call. State Bank of India, Corporation Bank, State Bank of Mysore etc have warned their customers that their services on Tuesday may remain crippled. It is learnt that many of the officer employees of these banks will attend the office and strive to provide service to customers to the extent possible.

People are not happy with the present situation so they go on strike. One thing is clear. Some one has found solution to all miseries. Why can't the administration give a chance to that person's opinion and avoid these strikes?

It is a happy occasion that almost all central trade union given strike call for benefit of nation, common people and against price rise, corruption and foreign investment, disinvestment in PSUs and other burning National issues. A misconception has been inducted in the mind of some people that Bank employees are over paid. But in comparison to cent re and state govt. employees and risk and responsibilities the salary structure is very low.
Any way when we are fighting for common cause like price rise, corruption, violation of labor law, disinvestment in PSUs, Let us come together to fight for save guard the common citizen and our country as whole.

This strike will not help any one to any extent. The daily wage earners will be the losers. Crores of revenues will be lost. Before going on strike the union and the government should sit together and come to a solution to avoid the strike.

No one is going to strike for fun. It is for getting attention/control. Discussions held before several times with Govt.of India on the issues on which the strike is called. But, there was no positive outcome. Now there is two INDIA - one is 'Shining India' another is 'Suffering Indis'. Who feels sufferer try to support the strike. Actualy this strike is the fight for 99% against 1%.

Let affected employees takes part in strike, but why Bank and Govt Employees??? All Govt employees almost up to 90% don’t work to their full capacity and Bankers are paid very good salary and bonus too. Can our “Milkmen, Taxiwala, Gaswala, Petrol Pump Operators” deny services to those employees going on strike on that day? Once in Srilanka, Doctors went on strike and all these men refused to give services to Doctors in need. After few days Doctors resumed their duties and never went on strike till date. Can it happen in India too? This CPM Parties conduct more and more strikes when they left with no power everywhere. When any Political Party conducts any strikes, some Media closely held by opposite Political Party take out the figures to show loss incurred to exchequer because of strike. Will they calculate the loss this time?

In some Pvt sectors salaries are not upto the mark (i.e., below daily wages). Govt. has to fix minimum wages based on the the growth of economy.

This kind of strike, especially Govt. sector employees join hands with Pvt. sector employees, to demand for fulfilling of their basic rights in accordance to the labour Act will be a first time in Indian History, won't it?. In many organisation in India, employees' security is less considered by the Management. Their intention is nothing but to make money by employing thru people with less cost, but with more burdon. Govt. ruling mahodayas' as well as concerned Govt. officials are blind even it happens in front of them. Where those industries or organisations are not taking care of their employees, there existing Union of Labour organisation should come admist to safeguard those employees and punish those capitalists without any kind of influence placed by others. Very sad and disappointing, any issue can be resolved amicably allover the world why our unions want to go on strike...? After all the people holding govt. chairs are our elected leaders. In Other words just to paralyse the govt. machinery which will be another burden to a common man. In todays Modern world nobody interested in such acts infact the negotiations and amicable settlements.

Thousands and crores of rupee business will be lost. The govt should immediatly resolve the issue. The present trend is to pamper the capitalist idea where poor man, labour / working class are lost in the inflation. The exploitation of the unorganised is in the rise in the guise of contract labour. The contract labour is exploited by the contractor, where the big business get their work done by contractor at the cost of labour.
