Faculty development program on Deployable Intelligent Systems Using AI, ML & DL held

Mangaluru, Jan 27: A five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Deployable Intelligent Systems Using AI, ML & DL” was organized by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Chitradurga, in association with the PG Department of the School of Information Science and Technology, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), AIMIT Centre, Mangaluru, from January 27 to 31 in blended mode. It comprised two days of offline sessions held at St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Beeri, Mangaluru, followed by three days of online sessions. A total of 45 members participated in the program, including 40 participants and five invited guests.

The program commenced with an invocation and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries. Dr Hemalatha N welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of continuous faculty upskilling in emerging domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning to meet evolving academic and industry requirements.

Nandakumar R from NIELIT addressed the participants and highlighted the role of NIELIT in promoting industry-oriented skill development through academic and research collaborations, including initiatives with NIT Calicut and Data Electronics, Assam, aimed at strengthening hands-on training and research-driven learning. He emphasized real-world AI deployment, model development, testing and validation, and effective data abstraction as key outcomes of the FDP and also briefed the participants on the registration and certification process.

Rev Dr Fr Kiran Cotha SJ appreciated the collaboration between NIELIT and St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and encouraged active participation, while sharing reflections on Artificial Intelligence as both a boon and a bane, stressing the ethical and responsible use of AI technologies for the benefit of society. As a mark of appreciation, tokens were presented to Nandakumar R of NIELIT and Nithin G, resource person and founder of LogicBox, for their valuable contributions.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Annapoorna Shetty, acknowledging the dignitaries, organizing committee, faculty members, staff, and participants for their support and cooperation. The inaugural proceedings set a positive and focused tone for the five-day program, emphasizing skill enhancement, ethical AI practices, and the development of deployable intelligent systems for real-world applications.
