Chennai, Feb 1: India’s rising squash sensation Anahat Singh continued her impressive run on the professional circuit by reaching her first-ever PSA Bronze-level final at the Squash on Fire Open in Washington. The 17-year-old produced a confident performance to defeat American Sabrina Sobhy in the semifinals on Sunday.
World No. 31 Anahat, seeded seventh in the tournament, outplayed the higher-ranked World No. 23 Sobhy 11-9, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5 to seal a 3-1 victory. With this win, the New Delhi teenager booked a title clash against top seed and World No. 10 Georgina Kennedy of England.

Anahat’s path to the final has been marked by resilience and grit. In the quarterfinals, she pulled off a remarkable comeback against second seed Sana Ibrahim of Egypt. After losing the first two games, Anahat clawed her way back, overturning deficits in the later stages to register an impressive 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 win over the World No. 17.
Already one of the brightest young talents on the PSA Tour, Anahat has enjoyed a breakthrough season. She reached the semifinals of the Silver-level Canadian Women’s Open in October, a result that helped her break into the world’s top 30 rankings.
Her recent form has been equally noteworthy at the junior and team levels. She finished runner-up at the British Junior Open, played a key role in India’s historic triumph at the inaugural Squash World Cup, and lifted the title at the Daly College Cup PSA event in Indore.
At the prestigious British Junior Open held at the University of Birmingham, Anahat narrowly missed out on the women’s Under-19 title. Competing in her ninth BJO final across age groups, she went down in four close games to France’s Lauren Baltayan, losing 9-11, 11-7, 3-11, 9-11. She had earlier advanced to her maiden Under-19 final with a straight-games semifinal win over Egypt’s Malika El Karaksy.
With consistent performances across senior and junior events, Anahat Singh’s maiden PSA Bronze final marks another significant milestone in what is rapidly shaping up to be a standout career on the international squash stage.
