Chandigarh, Feb 2: A delegation from the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, called on Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday, during which he underscored the state’s unmatched contribution to India’s unity, sovereignty, and enduring tradition of bravery and communal harmony.
Interacting with the visiting delegation, the chief minister said Punjab has consistently produced distinguished military leaders and fearless soldiers who have made the highest sacrifices in the service of the nation. He noted that the state’s association with the Indian armed forces remains a source of pride for the entire country.

Welcoming the delegation, CM Mann said the socio-political study tour was an important opportunity to understand Punjab’s social, economic, and political landscape. He added that the state government felt honoured to host the team and share Punjab’s rich heritage and contemporary progress.
Describing Punjab as a land blessed by great Gurus, saints, seers, prophets, and martyrs, the chief minister said the state is known for its brave, resilient, and hardworking people. He pointed out that Punjab’s youth stand guard at the nation’s borders, while its farmers ensure food security, earning the state the dual distinction of being both the “food bowl” and the “sword arm” of India.
CM Mann highlighted that Punjab’s farmers make the single largest contribution to the national grain pool, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the country’s food grains. He also recalled that soldiers from Punjab have laid down their lives in large numbers to safeguard the nation’s unity and integrity, and that Punjabis played a leading role in India’s freedom struggle.
Emphasising social cohesion, the chief minister said Punjab remains a peaceful state where mutual respect and communal harmony are deeply rooted. He added that despite being a border state, Punjab has never been divided along sectarian lines and has instead repeatedly demonstrated exemplary unity during times of crisis, setting an example for the rest of the country.
