Noida, Feb 7: A Delhi Police head constable has been arrested after a 25-year-old woman allegedly shot herself in the head using his licensed firearm following a dispute during a party at a residential society in Noida, police said on Friday.

The incident took place late Thursday night at a housing society in Sector 16B under the Bisrakh police station limits. The accused has been identified as Ashish Pawar, a head constable posted at the Kalindi Kunj police station in Delhi.

According to police, Pawar and the woman were friends and an argument broke out between them during the party. Pawar is married. Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s brother, a case was registered against the head constable, following which he was arrested.

Confirming the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) R K Gautam said the woman allegedly used Pawar’s licensed personal firearm to shoot herself in the head. “She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Greater Noida, where her condition remains critical,” he said.

Police have recovered the weapon used in the incident and stated that all angles, including the circumstances leading to the firing, are being thoroughly investigated.
