Mangalore: Seminar on ‘Recent Advances in Biological Sciences' Held

Mangalore, Feb 28: The Department of Zoology at St Aloysius College organized a national seminar on ‘Recent advances in biological sciences’ at Eric Mathias Hall of the college here on Tuesday February 28.
Presiding over the programme, Fr Swebert D’Silva said that biological science deals with life and new advances and research in this sector causes growth of the nation. He pointed out that it is better to achieve conservation of nature rather than simply understanding its importance when things go out of existance.
Dr Harish Joshy, guest of honor on the occasion said that Cuba is the nation which achieved sustainable growth in organic farming system, hence India should also consider the best possible ways to achieve such heights. There is need for large scale of technology to transfer their values to the masses, he said.
The seminar aims at providing a scientific platform to deliberate on the progress of research in various fields of Biological Sciences and to encourage young minds to undertake the need-based research in the same.
Dr Shakuntala Katre, professor and former chairperson , department of Zoology, Bangalore University delivered the keynote address.
Various such sessions followed. Prof Precilla D’Silva (HOD), convener and Dr Hemachandra, organizing secretary among others were present on the dais.
