Rewa, Feb 8: Three persons were killed on the spot after a speeding Audi car rammed into their motorcycle on the Rewa–Prayagraj National Highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The fatal accident occurred around 3 pm near the Kosta Jiula turn, about 20 km from Rewa town, under the jurisdiction of Raipur Karchuliyan police station. The victims — identified as 55-year-old Bhagwat Vishwakarma, his son Shivam Vishwakarma, and a female relative Sheetal Vishwakarma — were travelling on a two-wheeler to distribute wedding invitation cards for Shivam’s upcoming marriage scheduled for February 24.

According to eyewitnesses, a black Audi car travelling at high speed from the Rewa side collided head-on with the motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the bike riders died instantly, while both vehicles were badly damaged. The Audi later crashed into a road divider, after which its occupants reportedly fled the scene.

The deceased hailed from Ghooma village in the Garh-Katra area and were on their way from Hanumana towards Rewa to visit relatives with wedding invitations.

Local residents alerted the police and emergency services. Personnel from Raipur Karchuliyan police station, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Padmesh Mishra, reached the spot, conducted preliminary inquiries and shifted the bodies to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.

“A speeding Audi car collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from Hanumana, killing two men and a woman on the spot. We have launched a search to trace the occupants of the car,” ASI Mishra said.

Police have registered a case and initiated a manhunt to identify and arrest those who fled after the accident.
