Patna, Feb 10: During proceedings in the Bihar Assembly on Monday, the state’s youngest MLA Maithili Thakur raised serious concerns over the condition of a government hospital in her Alinagar constituency, stating that the situation on the ground was in stark contrast to what official records claimed.
Rejecting the written response of Health Minister Mangal Pandey during Question Hour, the singer-turned-politician said she was “not completely satisfied” with the reply provided in the House.

Thakur pointed out that the minister’s response described the hospital building as being in need of minor repairs rather than being in a dilapidated state. Countering this, she cited her own visit to the facility.
“The minister’s response states that the building is not in a bad condition, it just needs repairs. But I’ve been there myself. The building is completely dilapidated, and the entire healthcare system is confined to a small room. I am not satisfied with the minister’s answer,” she said.
She added that while official documents suggested “all is well”, the ground reality was quite the opposite.
Highlighting the lack of medical personnel, Thakur said the hospital, which earlier had two MBBS doctors, is now functioning entirely with AYUSH practitioners.
Emphasising the healthcare needs of the region, she demanded the immediate posting of at least two MBBS doctors for an area serving a population of nearly 40,000 to 50,000 people.
Located between Alinagar and Ghanshyampur, the hospital could serve as a crucial healthcare centre for thousands if properly upgraded, Thakur said.
In a personal and pointed intervention that drew the attention of the House, the BJP MLA remarked that she had been observing the Health Minister’s work since childhood and stressed that her remarks were not just a question, but a public appeal for the hospital’s renovation and strengthening of services.
Maithili Thakur, a popular folk singer, won the November 2025 Assembly elections from Alinagar on a BJP ticket, becoming the youngest MLA in the state.
