Mangalore, Mar 1: "Am overwhelmed on this special occasion... I am 80 now but I don’t feel it, as my hair is still black," said Fr Leo D’Souza, former principal and rector of St Aloysius College, during his 80th year birthday celebration organized at the college premises here on Friday March 1.

"People ask me if I dye my hair. I usually tell them I want to dye in the near future, however, not in black but white," he quipped, narrating anecdotes from his life about people taking jibes at his black hair.

"It feels great to be wished and complimented even in this age," he added, and thanked everyone for honouring him and attending the programme in large numbers.

Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal, lauded Fr Leo for his initiation in bringing forth reformation in the field of education. He spoke of the radical changes in the area of teaching-learning process, for introducing innovative courses, building potential and morale among students in the college.

Dr A Lourdusamy, addressing the gathering, dwelt on Fr Leo's sense of humour, which was not known to many. He also read out one of the literary works of Fr Leo that revealed his hilarious side. "Fr Leo's contribution to the social and environmental growth of St Aloysius Institutions is noteworthy," he further said.

On this occasion, a souvenir on Fr Leo was released by the dignitaries. The souvenir was a collection of reflections by his religious companions, professional colleagues and admiring students.

V R Hebbar and members of staff narrated their experiences with Fr Leo and wished him good health and peace. Smitha compered the event.
