Bangalore Lawyers' Assault on Mediapersons - Protests in Mangalore, Udupi

Condemning the alleged assault on media representatives by some advocates in Bangalore city media persons under the banner of D K District Working Journalists’ Union held a protest in front of DC’s office on Friday March 2.
 
The protest was planned at an emergency meeting convened at Press Club immediately after the report of assault on media persons broke on various TV channels.

Addressing the protestors, P B Harish Rai, president, DK District Working Journalists’ Union, said that the alleged assault by the advocates was unfortunate and severely condemned by all.

“The government should take stringent action on those assaulters as their action is recorded in TV cameras,” he said. He also urged the chief minister that there is need for protection to media representatives and media offices across the state.
 
He demanded that the lawyers who assaulted the media persons and policemen be removed from the bar council.

Another journalist Pushparaj said that the act of taking law into one’s hands is against the system of democracy. There is need to create an atmosphere wherein journalists can perform their duty with all freedom.
 
Journalists from various media organizations in the city took part in the protest and shouted slogans against the lawyers. Later, a procession was taken out to the DC’s chamber and a memorandum addressed to the chief minister was submitted through additional DC Dayanand.

Udupi, Mar 2: Mediapersons in Udupi came in strong support of their brethren and on police in Bangalore who were assaulted by lawyers in Bangalore on Friday.

The protest was led by district working journalists' union in front of the DC's office.

A memorandum addressed to the chief minister was submitted to additional DC Kumar demanding immediate action against the lawyers.

They also demanded an impartial probe into the incident.
